Tours for Area Fifth Grade Students
¹ARTworks Educational Tour Video
ARTworks began as a special interest project of the Junior League of Sioux City in 1980. After much planning and community involvement, ARTworks opened in 1982. Initial funding was supplied by the City of Sioux City, Junior League, and the Art Center Association of Sioux City. Currently, funding for ARTworks is provided by the Art Center Association of Sioux City.
ARTworks is a directed learning experience for fifth grade students designed to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the creative process. During an ARTworks visit, a docent guides students through the Art Center’s exhibitions focusing on the basic elements of art making. Afterwards, the class moves to the ARTworks studio where the docent leads the group through a creative and artistic hands-on activity related to the viewed exhibitions.
Fifth grade classroom teachers may schedule an ARTworks tour by contacting the Art Center at 712.279.6272 ext.200. A confirmation notice will be sent to your school. Tours and hands-on activities are normally one hour and a half in length and are available at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, or at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

The Art Center sponsors all transportation and material costs for ARTworks events; however, the Art Center is not responsible for making travel arrangements. At the close of ARTworks tours, teachers are asked to complete a brief evaluation form to help the Art Center continue to improve this wonderfully rewarding program.
