Community Art Continues!
l Sioux City Art Center is launching its third community arts project.
l City Art Quilts project, will feature 4’ squares, hand-painted artwork inspired by quilt designs.
l Based upon the successful Prairie Dog Quest in 2000-2001 and the Discovery Dog of 2002-2003, Siouxland organizations and individuals will have the opportunity to underwrite a City Art Quilt.
l The art quilts will be publicly displayed throughout Siouxland for one year providing residents and visitors ample opportunity to view these colorful and imaginative works of art.
l City Art Quilts, not purchased by their underwriters, will be auctioned with proceeds going to artists and to the Art Center to fund future exhibitions and educational programs.
Underwriter Considerations
Acknowledgement
Underwriters will be recognized with a plaque accompanying their quilt
During its year-long public display that will be viewed by hundreds of thousands of individuals.
Media & Promotion
Underwriters will receive mention in press coverage and collateral material (i.e. press releases, viewing guides, exhibit catalog, contest information, etc.)
You and your individual websites will be acknowledged on the City Art Quilts section of the Sioux City Art Center’s website.
Partnership
Underwriters electing to sponsor one or more quilts, will be supporting local artists and the Sioux City Art Center, while helping to promote Siouxland
Investment
Underwriters will pay $2,000 ($1,265 actual value + $735 actual cost)
An additional $100 artist fee will be charged for creation of a custom design or incorporation of a specific image
Purchase Rights
Underwriters will have the right of first refusal to purchase their City Art Quilt
($750) or its 30-inch square canvas painting ($500) and /or its framed and matted concept rendering ($200) prior to going to public auction
Artwork Specifics
l Collection of quilt-inspired artworks to be publicly displayed for one year 2010 – 2011
l Underwriter can choose from the following:
¡ Existing Design – original design by an area artist whose work has been submitted through the Art Center’s Call to Artists
¡ Custom Design – design incorporating specific colors, image, logo, etc. chosen by the underwriter ($100 additional fee)
¡ Specific Artist Design – underwriter works with an area artist of their choosing, who meets the artist criteria established with the Call to Artists competition
l Artist will consult with underwriter to approve the final design and colors
l Prior to completion of the 4’ square artwork on MDO board, the artist will create a concept rendering for approval and a 30” square painting on canvas (based on approved concept) for final approval
l Working closely with the underwriter to determine the best location for their City Art Quilt, Art Center staff will be responsible for the installation and removal (if necessary) of the underwriter’s City Art Quilt
l Underwriter’s selection of artist and/or quilt design will be on a first-come-first-serve basis
Why Quilts
l Promoting the pride we all have for Siouxland, City Art Quilts will incorporate a new twist to the popular images inspired by the Rural Barn Quilt movement
l Celebrating Iowa’s rich quilt tradition by challenging local artists to create unique new artwork
l Providing an opportunity to educate the public about the custom of incorporating geometric abstract designs in quilts to represent concepts and events
l Engaging a large and growing audience who create, collect and appreciate traditional and contemporary quilt designs
