Site-Specific Art
Site-Specific Art is a general term for a series of approaches to sculpture that emerged in the 1960s and ’70s where the sculpture (or, less often, painting, or work in some other medium such as video) depends on its installation in a particular location for its meaning. More than just works that are conceived as being tied to a specific locale, site-specific works often incorporate their physical placement into the work itself, making the removal of a site-specific work from its intended location equivalent to its destruction.
