Blockbuster I and II were established with a goal of promoting greater Sioux City by establishing the Sioux City Art Center as a significant regional attraction by underwriting major exhibitions. Blockbuster II will expand the Partnership, to not only include Blockbuster Exhibitions but also to acquire artworks for the Legacy Collection.
Funds from Blockbuster II, the Heffernan Foundation, Unnamed Foundation and the M.A. Martin Everist Foundation are being used for purchases for the Legacy Collection. The establishment of this collecting initiative will expand the Art Center’s Permanent Collection to include artwork of the highest quality by important artists who have strong ties with the Upper Midwest. This component will further enhance and strengthen the Sioux City Art Center’s reputation as a major regional attraction and an important educational resource of major artwork having Midwestern roots.
